Who We Are

We founded Dog Sports New England in 2013 with the goal of helping dog owners to enjoy a positive relationship with their dogs and teach the skills required for participating in trials. Our head trainer began training dogs when she was 10 years old and won her first obedience title at age 14. Through her decades of experience, she has developed an ADAA-affiliated program that focuses on positive reinforcement, proper technique and, above all else, safety.

Locally owned and operated, we established Dog Sports New England with the aim of teaching dogs everything from obeying simple obedience commands to performing complex tricks for dog trials. Our ADAA-affiliated program focuses on positive reinforcement, proper technique and safety.

Our lessons include obedience, rally, agility and trick dog courses. All breeds are welcome and must be 16 weeks old to begin obedience lessons and at least 12 months of age to participate in our agility courses.

What We Do

At Dog Sports New England, our skilled trainers welcome dogs of all breeds and skill levels. By enrolling your dog in our courses, we will help your canine companion build on the foundation developed during basic training, helping them progress to performing more advanced tricks with confidence. Our courses include:

Obedience

In this intensive, positive and reward-based course, we cover basic obedience commands and aim to teach the dog engagement and how to focus on the handler. This course is a pre-requisite for other dog sports.

Rally

This involves teaching handlers and their dogs the basics in rally, helping pups to learn how to navigate simple courses with numbered signs.

Agility

Following the ADAA’s approach in agility training, we teach fundamental skills in this beginner agility course. This includes jumping through hoops and running through tunnels.

Trick Dogs

We offer novice, intermediate and advanced trick dog classes, either in a one-on-one or small group format. Here we teach dogs how to execute more difficult tricks. This is also a great way to prepare pups for participating in other activities, such as dances with dogs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do I need to wait until my dog is 16 weeks old before starting training at Dog Sports New England?

This is due to the risk of young dogs contracting parvovirus and other diseases when they are young. Immunisation against this and other canine diseases reaches adequate levels at 16 weeks of age, or two weeks after the dog’s third vaccination.

  • I am a pensioner. Is there a pensioner rate for membership fees?

Our pensioner rate for yearly membership is $70.00. If preferred, this can be paid in two payments, six months apart.

  • I have two dogs. Do I need to pay double membership fees?

No, you don’t need to pay any more than the membership fee of $120.00, which covers any number of dogs and any number of family members who live in the same household.

  • I would like to do agility with my dog. What are the prerequisites for doing this?

In order to start agility training at the club, your dog needs to be able to stay and come with distractions around. For this reason, all handler and dog teams wishing to commence agility training should first join the beginner obedience class and will be assessed by the instructors prior to being admitted to agility training.
